Don't Forget to Vote!! Youth Weekend Justin Boot Giveaway American Contractors, Inc Advertising Information |
| LETTER FROM THE
PRESIDENT - I would like to inform the membership of an emergency club meeting that was held at the Kentucky Horse
Park during the Clayton Woosley Hall of Fame show. I would like to thank all of those who
were able to attend on such short notice. There were several
concerns raised during the time we were at the show and I felt it best
to call a meeting of those members available to try to answer some
questions and get input and ideas for some decisions that needed to be
made by the first of last week. The most pressing issue was
putting in the bid to host the 2009 and 2010 Northeast Affiliate
Championship Show which we have been hosting in conjunction with our
Tradition Futurity. NRHA as well as The Kentucky Horse Park have
expressed the desire that some shows be held in the new facility being
built at the Kentucky Horse Park before the WEG (World Equestrian Games)
are held there in 2010. One of the questions some of our members
had was is our club financially stable enough to put in a
bid for this show and can we afford to move it to the new facility if we
do win the bid. Rick Clark was able to give a report as to the
cost of the new facility vs the cost of the Springfield facility and it
appeared not to be as expensive as was first feared. Rick also
informed us that area businesses may be willing to put up some
sponsorship money for our show if held at that facility. Kathy
Lopp was able to report on the fact that the affiliate portion of the
show has never lost money. The Tradition Futurity has lost
money in the past, but, we also did not do as much fund raising to
support it as we should have. With help from Sue Flynn and her
group of fundraisers, we hope to have more trophy and class sponsors for
this year. Sue has done a wonderful job this year getting trophies
sponsored for our weekend shows and, with the addition of our Mens &
Ladies, and Green horse classes, our weekend shows have been able to
help us to stay in the black. In addition, when our club and
the CKRHA discontinued being co-hosts of the Clayton Woosley Hall of
Fame Show, we came away from that with $13,000 which is in a savings
account and untouched. With these facts brought to light, the club
did unanimously vote to continue with The Tradition Futurity and bidding
for the Northeast Affiliate Championship Show for the next two years
with the 2009 show being held at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington,
KY. The 2010 show will have to be held at somewhere other than the
KY Horse Park due to the WEG being held that year. If we don't win
the bid, The Tradition Futurity will continue as planned the first
weekend after Labor Day. It appeared to me that most of the
concerns were a result of unfounded rumors and lack of communication and
I, as President, would like to apologize for that and we will try to do
better at keeping the club members informed in the future. It
takes every single club member to help make this club and our shows
successful and I appreciate everyone's help, support, ideas, etc. I would also like to take a minute to thank everyone who has helped to sponsor our shows and activities as well as our major sponsors, Rick Clark, Clarks Pump N Shop and Kim Rose, Jividen's Farm Equipment, sponsors of our May Derby and Leonard's Truck and Trailer, sponsors of The Tradition Futurity. Everyone working together is what makes this club work. If anyone has any questions or comments please don't hesitate to contact me ljoewolfe@aol.com. See you at the August Show!!

The Ohio Valley Reining Horse Association hosted its first annual Youth Weekend June 6 & 7 at Henderson Arena in Jackson, Ohio. It was a fun filled weekend with prizes, games and plenty of food. Kim Switzer, mother of Cody and Sadie Switzer, organized the weekend and husband Buddy did the cooking and they did a spectacular job! There were prizes for class winners as well as the weekend high point youth, a mock “horse race” with model horses the kids had to decorate and then carry with them as they ran a race for prizes, a boot race, special OVRHA Youth Weekend T-shirts for all the youth, pizza and an ice cream sundae bar on Saturday and a cookout for everyone at the show on Saturday night. There were eighteen youth at the show vying for the wonderful prizes donated not only by OVRHA members but also businesses that were generous enough to contribute to this weekend geared toward our youth. We would like to thank Elaine Spears for the headstall and 2 sets of spur straps, Jaime Matheson for two custom show shirts, Weber Custom Tack for two leather halters specially monogrammed for OVRHA Youth, Pard’s Western Wear for a certificate for a pair of boots for the boot race, Tim and Tori Foley for iTunes, Starbucks and Blockbuster gift cards, Rick Robbins for reins, Steve Ronschausen for horse candleholders, Rick Clark, Lucas Equine, Joe and Emmy Wolfe, and Kelly Pinkston and Friends of Animals for cash donations, OVRHA for OVRHA T-Shirts, Jon Collins and ANC Productions for creating the youth shirts and Buddy Switzer for cooking. The kids showed a lot of creativity in decorating not only their model horses, but themselves as well. Allie Pitt had her “Glamor Girl” decorated with bows and pink ribbons, Trent Gamble had his “Yo Mamma” stylin, Vincienzo Santos dressed as Joseph and had his long eared donkey with him, Sadie Switzer was quite the jockey and her pony was painted with zebra stripes for “Racing Stripes”, Megan Foley and her horse Prince Henry were royally attired in matching capes, Trey Harrett and his “Big Brown” were there prepping for the Belmont, Ashley Fox was dressed in stripes and her horse in stars for her Patriotic theme, Cody Switzer was dressed as Paul Bunyon and his horse was Babe, and Elyssa Benning was quite the country girl with her “cow” horse. Cody Switzer, Vincienzo Santos and Kevin Bridewell all won iTunes gift cards for “win, place & show” in the race. Photos of the kids in their attire can be seen at http://www.myspace.com/ovrha The boot race was won by Jesse Gentile and he won a certificate good for a pair of boots from Pards. On Saturday, youth placing first through third all received prizes. Congratulations to the winner of the Youth 13 & Under class Elyssa Benning who received a custom show shirt by Jaime Matheson, 2nd place in the class was Trent Gamble who received a leather halter from Mike Weber of Custom Tack, 3rd place was Sammy Head who received an iTunes gift card and OVRHA T-shirt. The winner of the 14-18 class was Jesse Gentile who won a Custom Headstall made by Elaine Spears, 2nd place was a three way tie with Sadie Switzer, Kevin Bridewell and Ashley Fox who won spur straps by Elaine Spears, a set of reins from Rick Robbins and a custom leather halter from Mike Weber of Custom Tack. Congratulations to the High Point 13 & Under rider Elyssa Benning, winner of the custom show shirt by Jaime Matheson and Reserve High Point was Trent Gamble who received an iTunes gift card. High Point 14-18 rider was Jesse Gentile who won a set of custom made spur straps by Elaine Spears and Reserve went to Sadie Switzer who received a Starbucks gift card. The mom’s were not left out of the prize winning as they were entered in a drawing to win a couple of gifts. Jennifer Ellis’s mom won a Lemonade Gift basket and Jesse Gentiles mom won the horse candleholders. OVRHA plans to make this an annual event and we are all looking forward to the next OVRHA Youth Weekend! |
