OVRHA BANQUET - Once again the OVRHA Banquet was a huge success.  The banquet room was packed with about 110 OVRHA members, friends and family.    Many thanks to Bill Bradley, President of NRHA and Frank Constantini, President of the Reining Horse Sports Foundation for speaking at our banquet.  A big thank you to Simba Johnson for taking pictures throughout the banquet and of all our award winners.  Rick Clark and Joe Wolfe presented our Champions and Reserve Champions with their awards.  Champions were awarded belt buckles as well as fleece throws with OVRHA embroidered on them.  Reserve Champions won an OVRHA Duffle Bag with a smaller bag inside.  Rick also gave out his "thank you" awards to members of the club who donate their time to help make our club the successful organization that it is.  He gave either a gift certificate from Waltenberry's good for one issue of Reining Video Monthly or an OVRHA Duffle Bag.  Members receiving these awards were:   Dale, Kathy and Devin Lopp, Jack Martin, Pete and Cindy Scott, Joe Wolfe, George Clouse, Kelle Smith, Dave Wilkins, Kim Rose, Becky Jordan, Marilyn Bonnett, Elaine Spears, Kathy Taylor, Rick Ramsey, Dan Clarke, Carol Clarke,  and last, but never least, Madelon Ramsey, the worlds very best show secretary.  Madelon was presented with her article from The Reiner mounted and framed.  Dale Lopp presented Kim Rose with a large framed photo of the tractor at Jackson and thanked her for providing the tractors.  In a very moving presentation Joe Wolfe acknowledged all the people instrumental in saving the life of Rick Ramsey when he suffered a heart attack.  Only Dawn Hamilton was able to be present at the banquet.  Carol Dudley, Jeanne McGuire, and Karen Ladd were unable to attend.  Becky Jordan made a special presentation of belt buckles given on behalf of the customers of Woody and Kathy Taylor to Charlie and Shelly Wills in appreciation of all their dedication and hard work for the past two years.

The silent auction generated about $5,000 for the club.  A wide variety of items were donated....decorative items, tack and clothing were among many of the items available.  Jim Stewart, along with Bert and Robin Caron, Robert Reeves, George Reeves and Chris Cox made many very nice items that were auctioned off in live auction format.  Thanks to Don Craft for acting as auctioneer, he did a super job.  New this year was the chance to win $500.  Fake $100 dollar bills with photos of Rick Clark, Bill Bradley or Joe Wolfe were sold for $20 per chance and one of the lucky "bills" was worth the $500 prize.  Roger Vanover was the winner of the $500 cash.  Several others were marked and the owner of those won a free stall at one of the OVRHA shows.  Another fundraiser at the banquet was the "Quarter Race".  Participants placed a quarter between their cheeks...you get the drift...and "raced".  They had to complete the race with the quarter still in place.  After giving demonstrations of their abilities, you were able to bid on your favorite to win.  Three of OVRHA's respected trainers, Don Boyd, Charlie Wills and Woody Taylor were the quarter carriers.  The winner was Woody Taylor in a very close race with Charlie Wills, unfortunately, Charlie dropped his quarter and was disqualified.  Needless to say, if you missed the banquet you missed a first rate opportunity to unite with your fellow reiners in an evening of lively camaraderie.     (Back to Top)

NORTH AMERICAN AFFILIATE CHAMPIONSHIPS - This year the East Coast Affiliate Championships will be held in Springfield, OH in conjunction with The Tradition Futurity and hosted by OVRHA.   Each club may send 7 riders per class to the Regional finals.  Points are determined by the number of horses in each class.  You must declare to the NRHA office by July 1, 2005 which affiliate you plan to represent.  At the regional finals there is a team competition between participating affiliates.  The affiliate with the highest placing team will be awarded $500.  The top three horse and rider combinations will advance to the NAAC held in conjunction with the NRHA Futurity in Oklahoma City in December.  With this show now in our back door this will be a great opportunity for our club to send a full team to the regional finals.  OVRHA has won the Team Championship several times in the past so let's make 2005 yet another win for OVHRA!  Check out the link for NAAC on the OVRHA website for complete details.   (Back To Top)
