LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT -  I would like to thank everybody who braved the cold weather to come to our banquet!  Congratulations to all the Champions and Reserve Champions.  I would like to thank our members who worked so hard to organize the banquet...Madelon Ramsey and Sue Flynn for making all the hotel and food arrangements, and Kathy Lopp and Sue for working at the door taking in money for the banquet as well as collecting membership fees, and Rick Clark for being our photographer.  I would also like to thank Stacy and Jesse Westfall for coming and to Stacy for speaking at the banquet.  We appreciate everyone who donated items for the silent auction, especially our trainers who made up a big part of the money we raised this year.  Keep in mind when looking for someone to work with you and your horse, those trainers who support the OVRHA!  I would also like to thank Beth Vallery for heading up the fund raising committee.  She is doing an excellent job and has come up with many ideas for fund raising one of which is the Big Stop Raffle, details of which are in this newsletter.  I would like to encourage members with any ideas for how to raise money or help make our shows better to contact any committee member or myself.  This club is for the members and we want YOUR ideas and thoughts on how to make things work for everybody!!!

     Joe Wolfe, President OVRHA

AWARDS BANQUET - February 3rd we congregated at the Ashland Plaza Hotel for a fun filled evening with our reining friends.  Social hour began at 6 p.m. and everyone gathered to catch up on all the news and bid on some of the many items available in the silent auction.  Dinner began at 7 and, shortly after, OVRHA President Joe Wolfe introduced our guest speakers for the evening, Stacy and Jesse Westfall.  We all know Stacy from her amazing freestyle performances as well as being the first woman to compete in and win The Road to The Horse.  Stacy will again be competing in The Road To The Horse in March of this year.  Jesse is an NRHA judge with many wins to his credit in the show pen in Open and Aged Events.  Stacy did a wonderful job speaking to us on how she became involved in horses and the sport of reining.  If you have never seen Stacy perform or had the opportunity to hear her speak, you must do so.  She is very entertaining and has a down to earth manner of speaking.  Stacy and Jesse showed Stacy's freestyle performance where she performed not only bridleless, but bareback as well!   We also had a guest from the NRHA office at the banquet.  Melanie Rinehart, Member Services Supervisor for NRHA conducted a Show Secretary Seminar during the day on Saturday and she joined us for dinner that night.  After our guest speaker, the awards were presented.  Stacy graciously lent her assistance and presented all the awards as President Joe Wolfe announced them.  Following the Champion and Reserve Champion awards, the special awards were given to those club members who go above and beyond the call of duty to donate their time in assisting in many of the duties required to make our shows run smoothly.  Dale & Kathy Lopp, Jack Martin, Madelon Ramsey, Carole Clarke, Kathy Taylor, George Clouse, Becky Jordan were among the recipients of this special recognition.  Following the awards presentation, a few more minutes were allowed for the final bidding on auction items and then bidding was closed and the items awarded.  Many people stayed following the conclusion of the banquet to talk about their favorite subjects....reining, horses and when is the next show!
