LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT -  I would like to begin this letter with a special thank you to the OVRHA trainers who so graciously donated a months training to the silent auction at the awards banquet.  Thanks in large part to those generous trainers, our silent auction brought in a record $9,500 for the club!  This money will give the club a huge boost financially and will go a long way in helping to put on our shows this coming year.  I would also like to thank everyone who participated by either donating an item or purchasing one.  This club needs the help and support of everyone and I want you all to know how much it is appreciated!   I also would like to remind everyone of the generous support of some of our major sponsors for this year.  Jividen's Farm Equipment, who will be sponsoring our Derby in April, Leonard's Truck and Trailer who will be sponsoring The Tradition Futurity in September, John Clark Oil who will be sponsoring our Snaffle Bit Futurity in August, and Sundowner Trailers who has given money to be used in any way we choose to use it.   We as members need to let these people know how much we appreciate their support of our club.  They help make our shows the great successes that they are.  Be sure to check the website for a showbill for the April show and make note of the changes in added money.  We are working to make our shows affordable for everyone.

     Rick Clark, President OVRHA

 Condolences -

Our horse community has lost a special friend and a long time supporter of reining.  Janet Lagle, the mother of Lynn Savage and grandmother to Kali Savage, passed away suddenly on February 23.  Janet had been a supporter of reining horses for many years in many different ways.  From the late 70's to 1986, Janet volunteered and worked with Kaye Potts, then secretary of NRHA, at the Congress helping with the NRHA classes as well as the NRHA Futurity.  She was one of the founding members of the Eastern Ohio Reining Horse Association when it was formed in 1981 along with Jack and Zeta Warne, John Mehaffey and Jack and Carol McWilliams .  Eastern Ohio Reining Horse Association was the first reining affiliate in Ohio and the first organization to hold a reining show in Ohio other than the reining at the All American Quarter Horse Congress.  Janet was show secretary for EORHA shows which were held in Old Washington, Ohio for many years.  Janet was also at the very first meeting of the Eastern Ohio Quarter Horse Association in Marietta Ohio in 1981.  If you would like to send a card to Lynn, Nick and Kali mail them to  19482 Putney Ridge Road, Salesville, OH  43778.

Banquet - February 4, our year end awards banquet was held in Ashland KY at the Ashland Plaza Hotel.  As has been our custom in previous years, we had the current NRHA President Dell Hendricks as our guest speaker.  Dell talked a little about what a great direction the sport of reining is going in and then had a question and answer session.  Our silent auction brought in $9,500!  Jim Stewart created a Reining Game as one of the fund raisers that proved to be quite popular.  Jim also asked questions of Rick Ramsey, Joe Wolfe, Rick Clark and Dell Hendricks whose answers could be found in the November issue of The Reiner.   If they missed one, they had to donate money to the club.  Awards were given with beautiful belt buckles to the Champions and Reserve Champions received a grooming bag and nylon jacket with OVRHA embroidered on it.  A new award was give this year to the horse/rider combination who won the most total money during the year.  This award was given to Bernie Paetzel and his mare Alena Rooster.  Bernie received a jacket donated by Sandi and Dan Finlinson.

Clayton Woosley Hall of Fame Reining and USEF Reining - OVRHA and Central Kentucky Reining Horse Association are co-hosting the Clayton Woosley Hall of Fame Reining on June 22 - 25, 2006 to be held at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, KY.  Clayton Woosley was a top horseman and competitor and is a member of the NRHA Hall of Fame.  He was instrumental in helping to make reining the exciting, popular sport it is today.  The Kentucky Horse Park is the same location where the WEG (World Equestrian Games) will be held in 2010.  This will be the first time the WEG will be held in a location outside of Europe.  That is very exciting to know that it will be held right in our backyard!

Two full slates of classes will be held at the Clayton Woosley Hall of Fame Reining along with the Brownwood Farm Derby for 4, 5 & 6 year old horses.  Also held at this show will be the USEF Open Reining Championships and the USEF Young Riders Championships.  Last year this show highlighted over 20 of the industries top reining horses and riders in the USEF classes.  In addition, there will be classes for every level of competitor at this show from Men's, Ladies and Green Reiner to a full range of Open, Non Pro and Youth classes.  Click here for the Showbill.  Stalls are $125 for the weekend.   There are plenty of nearby hotels and restaurants and they have a wonderful campground adjacent to the showground. Go to http://ckrha.org/Claytonwoos/clayton.htm for more information on the show or on sponsorship information.  Plan now to attend and support our club in it's joint venture with the Central Kentucky Reining Horse Association!
