| LETTER FROM THE
PRESIDENT - OVRHA's show season is well
underway and we had a great first show. Our April show included
many new faces and it looks like the club generated about $5,000. We held our Year End Awards Banquet on Friday evening.
Congratulations to all the champions and reserve champions. I
would like to thank Skip Rulen and Kelly Pinkston for the excellent job
they did on the food for the banquet. And Thank You to Nancy
Birmingham for the great job she did on the Silent Auction. The
Auction brought in over $2500 for our club! Attendance was down
about 50% at the banquet and if any members have any ideas or comments
about the banquet and what we could do to make it better please contact
me and let me know. We want to make our awards banquet a fun
gathering for all our reining friends and a place to celebrate a job
well done. A special note needs to be made of our members
finishing on NRHA's top ten list, especially Roy Flynn, NRHA World
Champion Primetime Non Pro and Sue Flynn, Reserve World Champion
Primetime Non Pro.
We have some special things in the works for our upcoming shows. Of course, the May show is our Derby Show co-sponsored by Jividens Farm Equipment and Clarks Pump N Shop with nearly $40,000 in added money! Be sure to thank Kim Rose and Rick Clark for their sponsorship of this event. And be sure to tune up your "race dogs" for our dog races we will be having on Saturday. Prizes for all divisions will be given. Our June show will be "OVRHA Youth Weekend" with prizes, games and more for the kids. Thanks to Kim Switzer for coordinating this special youth weekend for us. All you green and rookie riders don't forget you are in the running for a couple of great trophy saddles sponsored by Rick Clark. I would like to thank Rick for his sponsorship and Henderson's for giving us a great price on these saddles. Beth Himes, Rick Clark and Rick Ramsey have been nominated from OVRHA to be in the running for the four NRHA Board of Directors from the Northeast Region. We can have four nominees, so if anyone is interested in running, please let me know. It has to be submitted by May 7. The other affiliates from the Northeast Region can nominate up to four as well. This will give the respective regions representation on the board. If we want to keep NRHA an organization for the people, we must become active and make sure all our voices are heard. See you in Jackson!!
